My Lounge

AllenKenya - 1/25/2010 7:52 PM
Sorry for the illness. Hope everybody gets healthy soon. The Runners Lounge Blog has been what I follow most and that's where I noticed the cessation of activity from the end of November.

My running: I'm trying to put a nagging injury behind me -- mileage low, speed slow, desire high.

Tom -- What's up with the Runners Lounge? I thought maybe y'all were just
taking a break over the holidays but it's been quiet a lot longer than
that.

Good to see you last week-end, what a surprise. Even if it was just in "passing". I am in Philadelphia this week for the ING half. The race is tomorrow, Should be fun.

Dear Tom,

Just wanted to take a quick moment to thank you and Amy for organising the Wrightsock Challenge with the Runners’ Lounge followers, without your dedication to making the Runners’ Lounge so special, none of us would have had this wonderful opportunity.

I would also like so very much to include Tom Webber and Pam McCarthy of Wrightsock in the thanks, for without them, my experience of having the opportunity to try the various product styles just would have never happened. So, THANK YOU!

Not only did I have the pleasure of receiving six pairs of socks, I had the chance to try out styles I would have never selected in my wildest dreams. Wearing the “right sock” is so very important to me especially on my long runs. I’m a bit of a fuss pot that way. This gave me the insight that you just don’t have to always buy the same product style over and over again.

Thank you too for including me on the Podcast, where I had the pleasure of speaking with fellow runners’ and “Lounger’s” and share their thoughts and ideas. What an incredible learning environment talking with the “pro’s”. I just love learning new things.

Tom, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the product testing, production and care and above all your sense of humour. Again, Tom and Pam, thanks to you I can now honestly give my endorsement (for what its worth) on a product which I am excited to hear is family operated and owned. I love the entrepreneurial spirit.

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to our views.

Believe me, I am certainly chatting up the experience with my fellow runners.

Once again, thank you all so very much,

 Your friend in running,
 Laurel

 aka Lily on the Road.

Hey Tom,

Did you post the interview with Wrightsocks someplace in the lounge??  If so, please let me know where - I'd love to read it....

Thanks!

Hey Tom it's great to feel so welcomed here :)

My runs are going great recently, I already peaked for my marathon in November in excitement and have plenty of time to bring my PR down some more. I'm focused on the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon in November, then I'll be heading straight into Boston training mode. Not so common among my fellow 18-year-olds, just makes me super proud.

Thanks for the note, Tom.  Mark37 told me about the site.  As a runner who counts my running by the decades now, it will be fun to connect with others who share the same interest.

I had a good 10K at the annual Bolder Boulder this year - #14 in my age group.  Not bad for a race that has over 53,000 entrants!

I have run several marathons.  I actually ran a Boston Qualifier a few years back but did not run Boston.  Now I want to run Boston but can't qualify!

So I am turning my attention to distance instead of "speed".  I am registered for my first Ultra marathon - 50K.  I'm a bit intimidated but looking forward to it.

I have been a Beach Body Coach for some time.  I decided that I have run for so long that my body has adapted to 30-40 miles a week as the new "normal".  The P90X workouts really mix things up and have added some much needed cross training to my fitness routine.  I've lost body fat and added core strength which, of course, helps my runnning!  I'd love to share my experience and resources with the RL community.  Poke around my website and ask questions.  I'm always interested in helping someone get an edge up.

Tom
Thanks for your welcome. I found the site while googling to find a running ecard for a friend's birthday.
I'm leaving on Tuesday for Germany - 2 week family vacation- but I hope to continue training for my fall marathon ( definitely our local Mohawk Hudson Marathon and then either Dublin or Outer Banks). Meantime, I ran the Saratoga Silks and Satins 5 K this morning and won my age group. I just turned 60 a few months back and with a 23:39 this was only  my second time breaking 24 this year.
I look forward to participating in the Lounge and will tell my friends about it.

Coaching would definitely be fun, though not something I want to take on right now.  My running club has coached track workouts every Tuesday and is doing a coached marathon and half marathon long runs.  Maybe when Jack is older, I'll get certified and do similar things to my coach.  That would be fun.
