Aloha! I have been reading the blog for awhile and was approached by Tom to officially register for the Lounge. I don't know why I waited so long! I am back to running after a nasty injury sidelined me for three months, and I am ecstatic to be back on the road. Check out my blog (frayedlaces.blogspot.com) to follow me along in my recovery. I look forward to connecting with other runners in the lounge!

Hey fellow runners...

Glad you found the Runner's Lounge because it is the coolest place to be if you are into running.. and I guess you wouldn't be here if you weren't!

My name is Bill Carter and I take running marathons pretty seriously. I've done 15 marathons now in the last 4 years and have made just about every mistake possible.. and learned a little along the way. If you are new to the marathon or a grizzled veteran check out my blog and maybe we can both learn something.

Hey Runners,
First off, welcome to Frayed! I'd be reading the blog a lot too before I officially joined the Lounge. Not really sure why that was.

As for me, my name's Jess. In my running career I've run one full marathon and one half marathon with lots more on the schedule for this year!

Hey all--

I'm Shelah. I'm 33 and have been running on and off since college. I got more serious about six years ago and got bit badly by the running bug last year. I've run one full (on New Year's Day) and a bunch of half marathons, with the Country Music Marathon and the Wasatch Back Relay up next on my schedule. When I'm not running, I'm usually chasing my four kids and reading. I've been posting on Take It and Run for a few weeks and really enjoy everyone's camaraderie around here!

Hi, I'm Dennis 54 and love to run. I will be in springfield, Ill from 17-20 Mar 08. Since I will be running anyway it would be great to be able to get with somebody local to run with. Kind of spur of moment, but then I just now thought of it.

HI all! I am new to running, it will be a year this april that I have been burning the treadmil, road, trail, or any other surface that will get me going! One thing I really like about the running culture- is the runner wave- a friendly 'hello', or 'morning' always keeps me encouraged on my runs..

Hello everyone!

I became a runner about 5 years ago because the coworkers in my department all were runners and all ran the Corporate Challenge. I walked a lot but decided to start running so I could join them the following year. I became involved in a local running club and the rest was history. I have run many 5K's and 10K's and 7 or so half marathons. I am deciding whether to take the marathon plunge this fall. I enjoy running because of the social aspects and the camaraderie.

Welcome slowrunner! I say go for the full; however, I must warn you -- they're addicting! I ran my first marathon this past September and also ran the Goofy Challenge in January (it's at Walt Disney World -- half marathon on Saturday, full on Sunday). I'm signed up for a third marathon in June and will probably do a fall one as well.

(Someone please help me!)

Thanks, Ovens2Betsy. Yeah, judging by you I can see that marathons are addicting. I guess I can say the same for me and half marathons. The year I did my first half marathon, I wound up doing 6. Not the smartest idea in the world.

6 Halfs? Wow! I love the half - but couldn't imagine 6 in a year - very cool!

Hi, all! I'm not new to running, as I've been running off and on since high school (I'm 38 now), but I've now come back to it after a childbirth hiatus that turned into a few years. I ran the ING Georgia Half and the Disneyland Half in 2008 plus some shorter races along the way. I'm planning my first full marathon at Baltimore in October and I'm also signed up for the Goofy Challenge in January (So, Ovens2Betsy - can it really be done?!?!?)

alsligh -- nope, it can't be done ;)

Not only can it be done, so many people like to run it they added an additional 1000 spots for 2009 (for a total of 4000; they sold out in record time!) The key is to include back-to-back runs into your training. I pretty much did back-to-backs every weekend in December, working up to an 11/22 miler.

For the race, most people take the half REALLY slow (although I didn't go slow enough; my legs were dragging the next day!) and then try to race the full. But you never know what the weather will do. We had quite a bit of humidity, but the temps weren't too terribly bad. Apparently 2007 was really hot, and 2006 was really cold!

We should start a Goofy/Disney thread as we get closer to the race.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Howdy! My name's Marjorie, and I live out in western Colorado. Been running for about 9 years, with some periods of brief breaks thrown in there a few times due to illness or extended travel. Anyhoo, I'm working towards the White Rock Half in December (I'm originally from Dallas), with the ultimate goal of joining a friend of mine in France next spring for the Paris Marathon. Good times!

I'm so psyched that I've found this forum and am looking forward to meeting everyone!

Cheers,
Marjorie

p.s. My blog is pinayrunner.blogspot.com. "Pinay" is slang (sorta) for Filipina (was born and partly raised in the good ol' Philippines).

Helllloooooooo Runners!

I dont know why it's taken me so long to join RL....it must be because I spend too much time on my blog! ;)

I'm Karen, 35 years old and the slowest runner you have ever met! :) I am a rookie runner (relatively speaking) and have completed a couple 5k's, a 12K and three half-marathons. *Completed* is the word to take away from that ~ by no means have I mastered any of these distances. I'm still working on that one!

I am married, with two great boys...and try to find enough time to run on a regular basis.

For more on me, you can read my ramblings at:

Hey there
Just came across the lounge in my search for running info. I am new to running....or rather newly returned to it after a 10 or so year hiatus. Still in the beginning stages, building my milage up little by little. I'll be glad for a place to converse on the subject. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hello,

I am Frank. I'm 49 years old and started running about a year and a half ago. I used to run a bit when I was younger but never in a race and was very surprise to find how much I enjoyed the racing part.

My longest race so far has been ten miles and I am starting to like the distance runs more then the shorter races so I will be running a few more 5 and 10 mile races in May and am starting to think about a 1/2 Marathon and then a Marathon. Can anyone recommend a nice half in the New Jersey area?
